Coronavirus is a threat.  It’s a threat to our health, our loved ones, and even our small businesses.  With the recent precautions by the CDC to self-quarantine, work from home, and cancellation of events, small businesses are being affected.

People are no longer eating out, going to the mall, let alone going to pick up simple necessities in fear of this virus.  This is very disruptive to small businesses all over. Research suggests 80% of people expect the situation to get worse. So, how can we support those small businesses during this tumultuous time? Luckily, there’s plenty of ways.  REIL is giving some advice below regarding how people can help their small businesses survive during this crisis.

Shop Local- Online

Many people are in fear of leaving their house, which is completely understandable.  However, there are ways to still shop even if it’s not in person. For example, shop online.  There are still items you need, and items these small businesses sell that can get to you regardless of an in-person transaction.  Have people buy you gift cards, make small business websites succeed.

Additionally, if you don’t feel comfortable leaving your house yourself, have those who are not immunocompromised do so for you.  We can’t cure the income that small businesses are losing, but we can certainly try.

Tip More Than Usual

If you do go to a restaurant or are considering takeout, consider being a little generous if possible.  If you have the means and funds, realize the tragedy these staff and delivery people are going through. Many rely on tips, and with the lack of people in the restaurants, they are making less and less money.

A bigger tip may not directly help the restaurant, but it helps to spread the goodwill and appreciation of the community.  It emphasizes the fact that we are all in this together.

Look for Discounts

Many small businesses are offering discounts to encourage consumer traffic.  They are trying to entice customers. They know you are afraid to leave your house.  Some businesses are offering incentives like they never have before. Delivery of service/products, while being available on curbside pick up for items.  The best is, they are offering discounts on almost everything. Support your small businesses, you can do so from afar.
